Rumor Corner: A top-10 pick against Alex DeBrincat?

Rumor Corner: A top-10 pick against Alex DeBrincat?

Last night my colleague Jérémie Lussier put together a piece on the current rumors in the NHL. And since rumors are so numerous this time of year, here’s the rest!

Alex DeBrincat against one of the best picks in the draft?

The interesting thing about rumors is that they come from everywhere and sometimes contradict each other. This is somewhat the case here. And we are talking about two well-known analysts in the world of hockey.

First, Elliotte Friedman believes the Blackhawks asked the Flyers for the fifth overall pick in exchange for DeBrincat, but Philly wouldn’t be interested.

For his part, Pierre LeBrun said there would have been no serious discussion yet between the Flyers and Blackhawks about DeBrincat.

Well, we’ve already seen worse things like a contradiction, but still. One thing is for sure: It would make a lot of sense for Chicago to make a trade like this considering they clearly want a rebuild. Having the fifth overall pick for DeBrincat would be a nice step in that direction, not to mention what Patrick Kane could bring to the table.

For Philadelphia, I could understand too. The team wants immediate results, and it’s not like DeBrincat is old. The problem is that he could be completely free in two years. Is it worth taking this risk?

Rayo wants to stay with Ondrej Palat

Ondrej Palat is the type of player that absolutely every team wants to have. He produces in the season, he does it even more in the playoffs, he’s good defensively, he’s an exemplary teammate and a true warrior. Precisely for this reason I hope that he uses all his autonomy to sign one last big contract.

But Lightning would like to retain his services.

The problem is that Tampa Bay has a lot on the line in terms of contract negotiations between now and next summer.

Will there be money left for the Palat? One thing is certain, players love playing in Tampa Bay and are usually willing to accept a little less money to stay there.

So it will be interesting to watch.

The Preds weren’t alone in the race for McDonagh

This one is a bit of a surprise to me, considering the small return Lightning got for Ryan McDonagh. I get it, they bought each other cap space, but I still expected Tampa to get a draft pick for the veteran defenseman.

Well, now we learn that there were a few teams of interest to the veteran, including Columbus,

If so, did Lightning accept the best offer? Or did they consult McDonagh on where she would prefer to go? Taking into account the services provided by the latter and the great class of Julien Brisebois, I would lean more towards this second option.

A lot of

– Other rumours.

– Interesting.

– Good news.

– It’s excellent.

– Totally agree.
