Development camp: Five of the top six prospects on the blue line won't play this week

Development camp: Five of the top six prospects on the blue line won’t play this week

The Canadian development camp opened yesterday in Brossard, with the traditional physical exams me medical.

Although the boys weren’t supposed to hit the ice until 12:15 today, several of them informally skated in the morning. We also got to see Juraj Slafkovsky in his new colors (and #60). Together with Marie-Philip Poulin, consultant for new developments, too!

We will monitor what Slafkovsky will be able to offer as hockey this afternoon… but we’ll also be keeping an eye on Sean Farrell, Joshua Roy, Filip Mesar, Justin Barron, Owen Beck, Lane Hutson, Oliver Kapanen, Emil Heineman, Ty Smilanic, Jayden Struble, Frederik Dichow and Jakub Dobes, some of the more interesting names among all the players present in Brossard.

Unfortunately, Kaiden Guhle (lower body), Arber Xhekaj (upper body) and Logan Mailloux (shoulder) are injured and will not participate in the ice activities scheduled for this week.

We are talking here about three great absences in the blue line. Mailloux- who skated alone around 11:40 a.m. – I’m still missing some good hockey. Will he be able to make up for all the delays he has accumulated in the last two or three years?

Note that Justin Barron is still recovering from an ankle injury

Why is Jordan Harris not present? He only has a few weeks of experience with the pros…

Officially, Harris, like Jesse Ylonen, Mattias Norlinder, was drafted more than four years ago. Harris is a third-round pick in 2018. Therefore, he participated in the 2018 and 2019 editions. There were no summer camps in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.

To stay that Harris, unlike Ylonen and Norlinder, still considers himself an early-career prospect. The four years he spent in northwestern university distort the data.

But hey, the rules of the collective agreement are the rules! Harris had the right to say no and said no or has not been invited at all. Who knows…

Only two players born before Harris are at Brossard this week: Lucas Condotta (new to the organization) and Owen Savory (wild).

Please note that Sheldon Kennedy should speak to the CH’s hopes a little later today. He will try to make them aware of the various dangers that await them in professionals. He will speak in particular about respect and consent together with Bruno Gervais. Damn, she wishes she could see Logan Mailloux’s face during this conference…

Remember that the Canadiens’ development camp will end on Wednesday, around the same time the unrestricted free agent market opens.

A lot of

– Matt Murray would approach Toronto (and Edmonton’s Jack Campbell?). Everything will depend on Murray’s health in the end.

– Small contract purchase planned in Chicago.

– Several Quebecers without a contract will participate in an NHL development camp.

– Promotion for Joe Sakic and Chris MacFarland.

– The Oilers have given Evander Kane permission to chat with other teams.

– David Krejci would approach (again) Boston.
