Vivo launches the X90 Pro+, the first smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip

Vivo has just presented its new series of high-end smartphones, the X90. In total we are entitled to three devices, the Vivo X90, X90 Pro and X90 Pro+. The latter is the official smartphone of the 2022 Soccer World Cup, but above all the first with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.

The Vivo X90 Pro + wants to become the new king of photography

With its new Vivo X90 Pro+, the Chinese manufacturer thinks big. We are entitled for the first time to Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. The latter promises performance increases of 35% for the CPU part and 25% for the GPU. However, it is above all energy efficiency that has been improved, with a reduction of 40% and 45%, respectively.

Like its predecessor, the Vivo X80 Pro that we tested, the new Vivo X90 Pro+ is entitled to a 6.78-inch 120Hz QHD+ AMOLED displaybut this time with a Dashboard Samsung E6the LTPO 4.0 technology and a maximum brightness of 1800 nits. However, despite all these impressive additions, the main novelties are in the photography section. In fact, Vivo has equipped its high-end smartphone always based on a configuration with four cameras, but this time with much larger sensors. The main sensor is nothing more than a 50 MP IMX989 measuring 1 inch, the same one that we found in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. It is accompanied by a 48 MP IMX598 ultra-wide angle sensor, a 50 MP IMX758 portrait sensor and a 64 MP OV64B periscope sensor that offers 3.5X optical zoom (up to 100X digital). The selfie part is provided by a 32 MP sensor.

The photo part is mainly accompanied by Carl Zeiss lenses and lens coatings. Therefore, the sensors receive more light, but also better control of reflections and distortions. The smartphone also promises better shot processing compared to previous generations thanks to the new image coprocessor V2.
