Despite everything, the Montreal Canadiens held a practice this morning at the Bell Center for tonight’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
First, Sean Monahan was observed training with the rest of the group wearing a T-shirt that suggested he could not receive contact.

He did various exercises with Adam Nicholas to test his foot and leg during training.

Obviously, due to Cole Caufield’s injury, the Canadian had to make at least one memory for tonight’s game, and it was Alex Belzile who was chosen.

Why not Antonio Ricardo?
Good question. Probably to avoid putting him on waivers and losing him for free if he ever had to be sent back to Laval.
Thus, Belzile will be playing his first game of the season for the big club, while still looking to score his first NHL goal.
The 31-year-old forward has played in just 13 NHL regular season games and has earned one assist. He also played in six playoff games in the 2019-20 season. He had also racked up an assist.
It is Samuel Montembeault who will be in charge of the CH cage tonight against the Maple Leafs, when he will play his seventh consecutive game.
As for the rest of the formation, CH will once again play with 11 attackers and seven defenders.
Let’s say he has no choice but to play 11 forwards, since there are only 11.
There are twelve names, but of course Cole Caufield is not healthy. He’s not on the disabled list yet.
So that means Kirby Dach, who received a day of treatment yesterday, will play tonight after skating this morning.
With Cole Caufield absent for the rest of the season, it is likely that various combinations with Nick Suzuki will be tried.
For tonight, Suzuki will have Josh Anderson and Rem Pitlick as wingers.
Martin St-Louis says that Nick Suzuki should be flanked by Rem Pitlick and Josh Anderson to start tonight’s game.

It remains to be seen what the rest of the lineup will be like.

– And the domino effect for the Lions of Trois-Rivières.
With the retirement of Ryan Francis from the Trois-Rivières Lions, only Brett Stapley and Joe Vrbetic remain under contract with the Rocket who are still at Trois-Rivières. The numerous injuries are creating a ripple effect rarely seen at all three levels of the organization.

– Medical updates on the Rocket.
This morning at the Rocket, Brandon Gignac, Jan Mysak, Tory Dello and Madison Bowey trained solo. Jean-François Houle said yesterday that he hoped to see some of them back in the All-Star game. There are still 6 games left in the Rocket until then.

– Exactly.
Injuries are part of sport. which is sad for him #CHits supporters and some of the cripples is that Caufield, Guhle and Slafkovsky are stunting its development.

– Wow.
Rasmus Dahlin visited Don Granato on the flight home from Chicago and asked him to attend a movie session on Wednesday, a day off.
He skated 25:12 against New York and had 2 assists, including his incredible stretch pass to the winner.
“He was very, very good,” Granato said.
