Martin St-Louis does not say the bottom of his thought

I still remember Martin St-Louis, the athlete, a great competitor. Then, I hear him say after the loss against Rayo on Wednesday that he is pleased with the effort shown by his team.

Such observations lead me to believe that St-Louis is not telling the substance of his thought.

When he says that lately he has been satisfied, it is because he isolates moments from a game. The Canadian could have posted a good effort in the second period. But deep down, St-Louis must know that this is not enough.

On the one hand, the coach says that he sees good things about his players and there are some things to fix. He did it after the meeting in Tampa.

On the other hand, Nick Suzuki, the captain, says he is annoyed by the way the club is playing. That he feels uncomfortable with these actions.

they are waiting for the phone

The truth is that Canadians play hockey badly. The two games in Florida were painful.

I said it at the beginning of the week: the problem in this team is not the youngsters. By contrast, the top three scorers in the formation are Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Kirby Dach. None of the three is over 23 years old.

But veterans wait for the phone to ring. They tell themselves that they will probably be better off somewhere else. I don’t think they bother the rest of the team, be negative. But they hope to leave Montreal.

We use the youth of the team to explain the losses, but the problem is their experienced players. In Florida, there were five young defensemen in the lineup. But the worst on the blue line was Joel Edmundson.

Poor Kaiden Guhle, who has to play with him… He ends up with twice the work.

What hurts the most about all this is that they are the Montreal Canadiens. From an institution. It’s been going on for two years. Last season the team finished 32me rank, last This year, players don’t play their hearts out for 60 minutes.

not by merit

In addition to the lack of veteran effort, funny decisions are made. One I don’t understand is that the Canadians removed Anthony Richard from the Laval Rocket. They made this decision because Richard was the top scorer.

Except once he got to Montreal, he played fourth line and wasn’t given a spot on the power play.

In any case, we don’t work on our own merits to allow playing time on the Canadiens’ power play. Some get it without even having scored a single goal this season…

It is obvious that internally they have their reasons for giving Evgenii Dadonov ice time. Even if he’s sure his bags are already packed and he’s ready to go! From the outside, however, it is difficult to understand. He just puts on the uniform.

Usually, in a club we trust the veterans to accompany the youngest. But no one, right now, can serve as a big brother. It scares me.

I respect your patience

I’m sure there are internal discussions between St-Louis, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton over training. It is obvious that they do not like defeats to accumulate on their record. It doesn’t look good on your resume.

It is clear that Martin St-Louis is not satisfied. He has to discuss it with his family. I don’t know how he is internally. He seems like a cool guy who talks a lot.

St-Louis, the player, was intense, dedicated. Hardworking, persevering, who did not accept defeat under any circumstances.

In public, however, he always comes back with the same words. The concept, the group spirit.

His patience honors him. But I wish Hughes, his general manager, would come out of his office and say that the effort the veterans are showing is unacceptable.

At the risk of repeating myself, it’s the Montreal Canadiens. An institution. What is happening right now is not normal.

2022 stole two grand from us

When I think back to the year just past, I can’t help but think first of all about the premature departures of Guy Lafleur and Mike Bossy.

Two great players who marked hockey, but also two great men.

Guy, I directed him, I worked with him for so many years. I had the opportunity to get to know him beyond the athlete.

Mike, I played him in the youth ranks and in the NHL, when I was a coach. He became a co-worker at TVA Sports.

The year is coming to an end, and we still often talk about these two great losses. It testifies to the impact they had on our lives and also the legacy they left behind.

Congratulations to Felix and Marie-Philip

The performances of Félix Auger-Aliassime and Marie-Philip Poulin have been rewarded with various prizes in recent weeks. I congratulate you. Your successes have repercussions throughout the world.

When we talk about Quebec abroad, it is often due to sporting feats. Reminds me of the nordic, back in the day. We were promoting Quebec in North America.

These two athletes are respected all over the planet. Because of his talent and also because of his personality.

Cheers to all!

I take this opportunity to wish you all, dear readers, a happy new year 2023. Health and happiness to each of you.
